No two modelling assignments will ever be exactly the same, but there are some similarities – as well as many differences – when it comes to what to expect.
At Models Direct we believe it’s important for our models to have a good understanding of the work we offer them and of what to expect with each and every assignment.
That is why our website is full of great advice and lots of tips – and is why each of our models has a personal contact they can talk to about the general work and specific assignments.
Here are some questions and answers that might help you learn more about what to expect:
Q: What kind of modelling work might I be offered?
A: At Models Direct we are likely to offer you commercial modelling, lifestyle modelling or promotional modelling. For commercial modelling or lifestyle modelling, you could well be attending a photography or film shoot, where you are asked to take on the role of a character – and this could be almost anything. You are likely to have to dress in a certain way, perhaps act a little and certainly follow the explicit instructions of the director on the day. Promotional modelling could see you attend an event. This is more of a live role. You will also have to dress in a particular outfit and perhaps hand out leaflets or show people to a stand to find out more about a product.
Q: What will the modelling job entail?
A: Again, this is very varied but your contact at Models Direct will explain it all to you. Before we even put you forward for the job, they will tell you where you need to be, when you need to be there, what you will be asked to do and how much you will be paid. You can then tell us whether you would like us to put you forward. If you say yes and you are chosen by the client, then we will talk you through everything in much more detail. We will also be available on the end of the phone to answer any of your queries.
Q: What will I have to do on the day of the modelling assignment?
A: Every modelling job is different, but we will prepare you as much in advance as we can. When you arrive at a commercial or lifestyle booking, you will be met by a team – perhaps the director of the shoot or a photographer who will also explain what is required of you. These will always be people we have vetted in advance and many of them will be clients we have worked with before. They will understand you might be nervous, especially if this is your first time, and their job is to reassure you and make sure everything goes smoothly.
Q: Who else will be at the modelling assignment?
A: Any number of people may be there, depending on the job. For a photography or film shoot, this could be anyone from just one photographer or camera person up to a full team or crew. There could be lighting and sound people, a wardrobe team and make-up, as well as others who are there to ensure everything goes well – from runners and helpers to a director, perhaps. There may well also be other models that you have to interact with. Having other people there will only serve to make the whole experience more interesting and enjoyable.
Q: Where will my modelling job take place?
A: It could be anywhere! The work we offer our models varies from local jobs, close to where they live, to international work! We understand that not everyone wants to travel though, and if you don’t want to go to wherever the assignment is taking place, then that is fine – you can always say you don’t want to be put forward for the work. We will also discuss any travel arrangements for you. Sometimes travel is organised by the client and sometimes you are asked to make your own way to a job. But we will ensure you know exactly where you need to be and how you are going to get there.
Q: How much will I be paid?
A: Again, this varies from modelling job to modelling job, but the great advantage of working with an experienced agency such as Models Direct is that we negotiate a reasonable fee for you. We know what you should be paid for an assignment and we discuss this with the client. We also ensure that you will be paid. No model should ever take work when payment is not guaranteed. At Models Direct we insist on payment in advance. We then retain the fee until the assignment is completed and we pay you a few days afterwards. That way you can be sure you will receive what you are owed.
