Here at Models Direct we love to hear from anyone who is interested in modelling – young, old, experienced, inexperienced…
What matters to us and our clients is that you have the confidence and enthusiasm to give it a go.
Our clients aren’t looking for the next Gigi Hadid or Tyson Beckford, they want people who can accurately play the roles of other members of the public in their campaigns and advertising.
But, having said that, as a leading UK agency, we are increasingly noticing that those seeking models for photo and film shoots, as well as promotional work, are asking for soft skills.
So what are soft skills in modelling – and how can highlighting them help you to be selected for an assignment?
Soft skills include communication, interpersonal abilities, reliability and time management, self-assurance, adaptability and problem solving.
Being strong in any or all of these areas will only help serve to make you an ideal team-mate throughout the booking.

Our clients want models who will arrive on time, listen and process instructions and are where they need to be when they are required on set.
They want people who will interact well with other models, as well as photographers, art directors, set assistants and any other crew members who are present.
They want models who can cope with change, be creative with their approach to modelling and even come up with their own ideas (if asked) within the role they are playing.

Some of us are born with some of these soft skills and others have to work hard at developing them – either way, if you have any, then we need to know about them.
You may have honed these soft skills in other jobs you have had, within your home life or in your leisure time.
Perhaps you have become confident because you have performed on stage; perhaps you can prove you are a good team player because you are a keen sportsperson.
You may be able to highlight your reliability, adaptability and ability to interact with others because you have held demanding positions in the past or have overseen a tricky project or task.
Our agents and our clients love to hear more about who you really are – when you apply to join us, when we chat to you on the phone and on your e-portfolio if your application is successful.
Modelling isn’t all about how you look or present yourself, it is also about what is inside.
You are so much more than your appearance – but we won’t know exactly how unless you tell us!
