Why Spring Is the Perfect Time to Update Your Child’s Modelling ePortfolio

Spring is often cited as a season for hope.

We’re not knocking winter, as it’s many folk’s favourite time of the year. Yet the emerging flowers, longer daylight hours and the “promise” of warmer climes are frequently the impetus we need to shrug off any signs of prevarication and to GET. THINGS. DONE.

Updating your Models Direct portfolio is something we insist on. We recommend doing just that every two or three months, but we insist all models do it at least twice a year.

Why is updating any modelling portfolio so important?

Models must own their portfolios. It’s their responsibility to show our clients their current looks and skills, which is a model’s best chance of catching the eye of casting directors or anyone with influence at the client’s end.

The main reason why models are not selected by the brands is that they’ve neglected their portfolios, leaving them tired and stagnant. Critically, neglecting your portfolios means our clients might be seeing inaccurate or old images of you – that’s YOU, the main selling point. So, it’s counterproductive to expect to be chosen by the people that you need to impress if those photos and reels on your portfolios haven’t been updated for months or, in some cases, years.

There’s really no excuse!

Understandably, parents will update portfolios for their young children A child’s portfolio will serve as their very own CV – it could well be a one-way ticket to modelling success. But it won’t happen overnight. Child modelling is among the most competitive types of commercial modelling, so parents must give their child the best chance to stand out.

Why is spring often seen as the perfect time to update a child’s modelling portfolio? Though there’s no bad time to capture accurate images, we can pinpoint some reasons why spring is “Perfect Portfolio Time”.

1. Mood shifts. Many people are simply happier in the spring, having turned their backs on the winter and look forward to positive vibes for forthcoming few months. A better mood often equates to an increase in productivity.

2. Better photo conditions. Spring is ideal to get outside and take advantage of the early year’s longer daylight hours. Flowers are blooming and skies are bluer – it’s the perfect time to photograph your young talent. Our clients will certainly appreciate the effort.

3. A resurgence in demand. It’s true that Christmas bookings remain as hectic as ever, but companies always plan months ahead. So, spring is a vital season to show off summer gear and offers in line with a brand’s marketing strategy.

4. Children often enjoy school more in spring – no doubt due to the promise of summer and the opportunity to socialise and play outside.
