As a model it might be difficult at times not to feel body conscious, but it is important you feel comfortable with your natural shape, while also maintaining your physical health and energy levels.
Travelling to and from assignments, and taking part in photo shoots, campaigns and events, can be a tiring business, but making sure you stay lively and enthusiastic is crucial to your success.
Finding a way to do this that is easy and convenient on the go, while also being healthy and effective at giving you that vital boost, can sometimes be a chore.
So here are three suggestions to help you avoid those short-term, junk food, energy fixes:
- Try to have a good breakfast or lunch before you leave for your assignment
Low GI, complex carbohydrates should keep you going for a while. Have bowl of porridge or cold oats and fruit at breakfast or a slice of wholemeal toast, with an egg or avocado, for lunch. Hummus can also be good as chickpeas are packed with complex carbs and fibre. If you have time to prepare something more substantial, try brown rice or quinoa in a salad or a bowl of lentil soup, with a slice of wholemeal bread.
- Ensure you keep hydrated throughout the day
Don’t be tempted to rely on sugary or energy drinks. Water is fine so make sure you take plenty with you and you sip it throughout the day, even if you don’t actually feel thirsty. When you become dehydrated, your body slows down and it can be harder to dig deep to find those energy reserves.
- Take healthy snacks with you
It is so easy for models to reach for a bar of chocolate or a bag of crisps when out on an assignment – but don’t be tempted and make sure you plan ahead. Take a banana with you for a quick energy boost and pop a couple of apples into your bag as their natural sugar, carbs and fibre are also enlivening. Seeds are also thought to help improve energy levels. Why not make up your own mixture of the seeds you enjoy? Try chia, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame or flax seeds; put them in a small pot with a lid and have a mouthful every now and again to give yourself a lift.
