Child modelling – what to consider before joining our agency

Here at Models Direct we are highly experienced at working with children.

For more than 30 years now we have been running an agency that understands how careful, attentive and professional you need to be when sending children and their parents to modelling assignments.

We have developed many longstanding relationships with clients who employ junior models and we have had baby, toddler and child models who have continued to worked with us over the years as they have got older.

But modelling isn’t for every child or every parent and so as you mull over whether it might suit your family, here are a few key considerations:

1 Is your child friendly, sociable and eager for new experiences?

Do you think he or she is capable of listening to simple instructions and carrying them out? Babies and toddlers are obviously not expected to do this but if they are happy and ambiable it makes working with them so much easier.

2 Are you happy to accompany your little one on assignments?

We need you or the child’s other parent or carer to be involved in the whole process – and that includes taking them to the shoot, looking after them on set and keeping them happy and entertained when they are not needed.

3 Do you understand that we never guarantee to be able to offer work to any of our child models?

This is because the final decision as to which child is selected for the job is not made by us. When a client requests a child model, they give us a specific brief eg “We need a six-year-old boy with brown hair, brown eyes and glasses.” We then search through our books and provide them with a selection to choose from. They then make the final choice. We know it can be frustrating if your child is not offered work but unfortunately, this is out of our hands.

4 Can you maintain your child’s e-portfolio and ensure it is updated regularly?

To give your child the best chance of working, you need to ensure all their details are up to date and that you have uploaded recent photographs. Children change so quickly and it is vital that we and our clients can see what your child currently looks like.

Child modelling can be great fun and it can suit many youngsters and their parents. To find out more, fill in our form, send us some pictures and we will be in touch.

In the meantime, this is what some other parents have had to say about working with Models Direct following a shoot for national supermarket chain Morrisons:

Zor-El’s mum said:

“The shoot was very successful!! My daughter enjoyed shooting for the Morrisons PR photoshoot for Halloween pumpkin campaign.

“We were not expecting to be in the actual Morrisons store during shopping hours, but it was early and ran smoothly.

“The staff members and the other model were very friendly and easy to work with. She felt very comfortable and enjoyed her first experience with Models Direct.

“Zor-El loved her vampire outfit and enjoyed taking pictures with the massive group of pumpkins and signs.

“The photographer was very fun and friendly, his feedback during the shoot made us all feel comfortable and relaxed. Thanks again.

Ayanah’s mum said:

“Ayanah had a great day attending an assignment with Morrisons. The team was very patient and engaging.

“Ayanah had a great time playing with the toys while the pictures were taken.

“The staff encouraged her and praised her when she smiled for the photos.
