Capturing your teen’s vibrancy in modelling photographs

Don’t you just love teenagers?

While they can certainly frustrate their parents at times, they can also be sharp, sparky, witty and the most wonderful company.

Here at Models Direct we adore working with teenagers.

They bring something truly unique to each photo or film shoot and we receive such lovely feedback from our clients telling us just how much fun they can be.

When any model joins us, we ask them – or their parents – to maintain an e-portfolio displaying recent photographs and including useful and important information.

This is an essential tool for us because it is what we look at when considering our teen models for assignments.

It is also what we show our clients to help them make their final decision as to who to employ for their particular job.

If you already have professionally taken photographs of your teen, then, of course, please upload them.

But if not, we’d love to see a selection taken by you on your phone or digital camera.

As long as they are sharp and show a clear image of your lovely son or daughter then they will be just fine.

But what we would really like you to do is to make every effort to catch something of your teen’s vibrancy in your photographs.

So how can you do this?

Firstly, only undertake your photo shoot if your son or daughter is in a good mood!

There is no point going out with them and your camera if they are feeling generally grumpy and out of sorts.

Secondly, let them wear whatever they like for your first photo session.

The odds are they will choose an outfit that reflects who they are and that they will look great in it.

And this will allow something of their natural vibrancy to show through.

If you really feel their outfit is inappropriate, then do a second photo shoot for some additional pictures, where they are wearing something you both agree on.

You can then sit down with them to look at all the shots together and explain why you feel some pictures are more suitable than others.

Thirdly, take lots and lots of photos and then edit them down to the best two or three.

Your teen will pose and smile for the camera, but the more pictures you take, the more likely you are to catch them off guard in a moment where a natural look or grin shines through.

Finally, consider bringing one or two of your teenager’s friends along with you on your photo shoot.

There’s nothing like a gaggle of giggling girls or cheeky boys to set each other off and that might just give you the chance to capture that special shot.

Let some of the kids take photos too and make the whole session as much fun as possible.

Before you know it, you will have achieved the one or two wonderful pictures you need to send us or to upload to the e-portfolio – and your tremendous teen could be well on the way to their first modelling assignment.

This is what our teen model Lily told us after her first assignment with us:

“I had a fantastic time on my first shoot for Models Direct.

“The clients and the other models were all really friendly and made the time fly by on the shoot.

“I can’t wait to see the campaign photos and videos.

“It was an amazing experience. Thank you!”
