We’ll kick off this blog with a few stats:
92% of mobile phone users in the UK own a Smartphone. This was revealed in October 2023, so the percentage may have increased slightly.
In the case of 16 – 24 years olds, the figure rises to 98%.
Overall, 83% of the UK’s population uses at least one form of social media.
Owning a Smartphone gives instant access to anything found on the internet. In a world where most people don’t like to miss out on worldwide / local news and – dare we say it – gossip, Smartphones are now the most ubiquitous technology in the world.
Whether you can’t live without them or are perfectly happy ditching them for more traditional mobile phones (or even refusing to own one at all), Smartphones are here to stay.
Social media use plays a huge part in most Smartphone user’s activity. When laptop use and Blackberries were all the rage in the late 1990s and 2000s, Smartphones are synonymous with on-the-go social media platforms, accessed by billions on public transport, on holiday, before bedtime, walking along streets, even at school (some parents are currently campaigning against this…). In short, social media is everywhere.
We know most models use social media. If you ignore the rampant bumf, social media is a great tool for free advertising. It’s not usually the advertising as we know it, but more a concise post here and a photo there, letting readers know that models are alive and kicking. Stagnancy is a model’s nemesis – models should keep things flowing, updating new looks and revealing their modelling experiences for others to learn from.
Aside from letting others know how you’re progressing as a model, one of the best ways to keep abreast of the industry is by following a popular, trusted modelling agency. Just as our models are keen to share their successes with us, they understand the value of keeping up to date via social media. We’ve discussed the power of reels, and found that just a 30 second film can work wonders when we recommend models to our clients.
By following us on social media, both experienced and fledgling models can see the amount of talent we connect with our vetted brands, almost daily. They can also be one of the first to know of any last-minute job openings, which could pave the way for more in the future.
We have four main social media platforms of interest to models around the UK:
Instagram – perfect for showcasing photos of our wonderful models fresh from a day’s shooting, or indeed photos of excited models ahead of working with our clients.
TikTok – the ideal platform for reels and short video clips.
Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) – aside from our new website, the go-to sites to read latest announcements and valuable feedback.
Following us on social media isn’t necessary for anyone to become a successful in the commercial modelling industry, but it certainly can give you a huge helping hand.
Follow us today and see how much you can gain – whether it’s increasing your chances of working with our clients or just keeping in the loop with any latest news and trends. Either way, it’s to your advantage!
