About child modelling

There are thousands of parents and guardians around the country asking themselves if their child can become a model. It’s a fair question and perfectly natural. Children have been in great demand ever since we first operated as a government-regulated modelling employment agency, and the trend hasn’t declined. In fact, child models continue to be one of the most sought-after types of models we cater for.

Some children just need a little push to realise their potential. Others are extremely extrovert, happy to be the centre of attention. Many children have sporting interests and special skills, and they cannot be underestimated when it comes to modelling. Our plethora of top clients are always keen to discover new modelling talent, with children being high on their wish lists.

Children are all different. It’s this variation that clients can use in popular marketing campaigns, whether it be website content, in print, or in social media advertising. Modelling is a superb way for children of all ages to engage with adults and other children, having fun whilst earning some well-earned money in the process. In terms of benefits, modelling really does tick all the boxes.

Child modelling is not all about looks. Clients don’t always look for the traditional “blue-eyed blonde” stereotype. We’ve placed thousands of children in various jobs around the country, and each one has their own individual looks and skills that have proved a huge success with casting directors and photographers. There’s a role out there for every child; the important part is to regularly update portfolios when a model changes their appearance.

We encourage parents to fil out their child’s Models Direct application. But what are the main qualities for a successful child model?

The five main ones are:

  • Sociable.
  • Able to listen.
  • Confident.
  • Fun-loving.
  • Well behaved (most of the time).

We hope most children have at least two of the above; plenty will have all of them!

Parents must know that, as an agency, we don’t pick models for our clients’ jobs. Instead, we use our 30+ years of experience to shortlist suitable models and put them forward to our clients for them to make the final decision.

Our clients are as varied as our models. Child models are particularly used for charities / councils that depict individual models or families, supermarkets and high street retailers. Sometimes, children don’t specifically “model” anything; they are filmed or photographed to portray a feeling that connects with the audience. Jobs are varied, which means we’re able to offer hundreds of openings to parents on behalf of their children.

That last point is necessary. We always communicate with parents in the first instance, as child safety is paramount. All our clients are vetted, and we go through the job descriptions before contacting parents. We ask that parents or anyone over the age of 18 years of age accompany any child on shoot.

All our models don’t need modelling experience. Our clients respect commitment and enthusiasm above anything else – it’s what makes commercial modelling one of the most accessible options for anyone looking for convenient, well-paid work.

We can’t wait to receive your child’s application – submitted by parents / guardians. Good luck!
