There is no doubt about it – 40 is the new 30…or maybe even 20?!
Whichever way you look at it, most of those in their upper decades would tell you they feel and look younger at their age than their parents and grandparents did!
But why is this?
These days there is much more of an emphasis on health and wellbeing.
The more we learn about looking after ourselves, the more we try to keep fitter for longer by considering our lifestyle habits.

We try to eat well, exercise more and ditch bad habits, such as smoking or over-indulging in alcohol.
Furthermore, fashion is much more of an intrinsic part of life for those over the age of 40.
Major brands and labels create collections that are suitable for older consumers, focusing on making them look good while embodying an air of youthfulness.
And all of this is exactly why modelling over the age of 40 is a growing trend.
Over the 35 years or so that it has been operating, Models Direct has seen a seismic shift towards mature modelling.
Our clients, from exclusive fashion houses to leading high street names, have cottoned on to the fact that there is money to be made from us as we get older.
Most of us are not prepared to compromise and slide gently into wearing loose-fitting dresses or trousers with elasticated waists – no we want outfits with great cuts and flattering styles!
And we are prepared to fork out for them.
Furthermore, we want to buy nice shoes, great cosmetics and attractive household items – and we want to dine out, go to the cinema and take holidays!

If advertisers want people over the age of 40 to keep splashing out on these things, they have to keep tempting us by showing us people of our age enjoying their products and having fun.

And therefore the need for male and female models over 40 just keeps growing.
Models Direct has seen increasing demand for people of this age to take part in photo and film shoots, as well as promotional modelling assignments.
And the feedback we receive is that they love taking part – they enjoy meeting new people, doing something different and earning a little extra money.
This is what Tom told us after his assignment:
“It was lots of fun!
“I had a great time at my first shoot for the NHS at West London Studios.
“I’m a newcomer to modelling and registered with Models Direct with no expectations.
“I was blown away to get my first gig which was fun and friendly.
“It was hard work but an all-round great experience.”
And Catriona told us:
“Gemma was very helpful and supportive both before and after the shoot.
“All the staff involved in the shoot were fabulous, professional, warm, humorous and organised.
“It was wonderful working with other models and the time spent waiting between filming passed quickly.
“We were looked after very well with refreshments and care.”
