Modelling jewellery and watches

Some modelling jobs are pretty niche, but that doesn’t make them any less accessible to models with the skills to pull them off.

Modelling jewellery and watches falls into a niche category, and it’s something which could fall under the radar to some models. Why? Probably because we don’t automatically think of it as a type of modelling, as we usually don’t see the model’s face. However, hand / feet modelling is extremely important to some of our clients, and we’re on the look out for more individuals with immaculate hands and feet to join the ranks of successful Models Direct models.

A lot of watches and jewellery are luxury products and could carry significant fees for successful models. But competition is high, as it usually is for all types of models. It’s not as straightforward as assuming you have the perfect hands or face that will attract the attention of our clients. Ultimately, clients are the decision makers, and they won’t simply choose the first model we put forward to them. Anyone interested in modelling jewellery or watches must know that only the most suitable models will be chosen.

The same applies for more mainstream economy items – after all, we’ve all worn watches or jewellery and most of us can’t afford items costing hundreds or thousands of pounds. But the principle remains the same: clients will select the most suitable models to market their products, and competition is just as fierce.

Though figures vary, the market size of watch and jewellery stores in the UK is generally valued at nearly £8 billion. Flick through any lifestyle magazine or scan through online pages and you’ll invariably come across a plethora of adverts. Whilst some pieces of jewellery and watches are photographed on their own, many are accentuated using commercial models. And this is where you could play your part – if you follow these four important tips:

1. The popularity of jewellery and watches rely on precision, accuracy and aesthetics. So should you, if you’d like to become a model for these products. Study other hand models and consider their elegance.

2. Take care of your nails and fingers. File your nails so they are symmetrical, and moisturise regularly. If you’re undertaking household tasks, wear gloves for protection and to reduce general wear-and-tear. Remember that hands, fingers and faces are the focal point of most jewellery / watch modelling.

3. Stay healthy. Drink plenty of water, eat fruit, vegetables and oily fish, as these will help keep your skin hydrated. Avoid too much sun, and reduce smoking.

4. Don’t rest on your laurels. Update your e-portfolios with regular shots and reels of your hands and faces. Clients appreciate models that always look to enhance portfolios, and it proves models are being proactive.

5. Keep updated with our Models Direct social media pages, excellent blogs, and job page. Experiment with photos for your portfolios by using different angles, rings, earrings, necklaces and watches.

We have the clients. We have the demand. Now it’s over to you to portray yourself in the best light to become one of our next Models Direct jewellery or watch models!
