How do I get into modelling?

The road to finally becoming a model can seem long and arduous.

We’re sure that some models have taken unsolicited photos and submitted them directly to agencies. The models will hope that their images will captivate the agency bosses so much that they’ll receive an immediate phone call or e-mail, inviting them to be screen-tested or pay a fee for professional photos to be used on their books. This won’t happen to all models, nor does it occur at every modelling agency, but it may ring true to a few models reading this.

Perhaps you’ve heard stories of people being propositioned (some would say “accosted”) in the street by agents. This has certainly happened to at least one famous model, so it does happen.

Most of the time, though, it’s not that easy. Nothing ever is. You could go down the route of sending photos to random agencies. It’s a model’s decision, and no one else’s. We strongly recommend reading an agency’s small print, and to have a second opinion before fully committing anything. If a model wants to pay for professional photos, then fine. Just make sure that you’re paying an agency to actively look for work on your behalf, instead of keeping your photos in their portfolio without lifting a finger. Photos gathering dust will not get you call-backs, nor will they introduce you to real clients who need a model’s talents and looks.

The best route to break into modelling is to join an authentic, trustworthy modelling employment agency. We are Europe’s no.1 agency, backed by the number of fully-vetted clients and the number of 5 star reviews from models across the UK. We’re completely open, so we invite anyone to contact us with any queries or doubts they may have. Whilst some people opt for uploading a poorly written review on any number of review websites, we prefer the human touch, so our team always encourages anyone to get in touch with us directly.

Opportunities are varied, so we’re looking for just about anyone (or animal) with the desire to appear in marketing adverts on behalf of clients, from global brands to ambitious start-up businesses. The common goal for all the brands we work is growth. They grow because existing and potential customers are aware of their services and products; that’s the essence of advertising, and most – if not all – brands need real people to pose and act in their marketing campaigns.

That’s where we come into the equation. For a customary small fee, all models have the chance to be seen by the largest collection of vetted clients anywhere in the country. For a sneak preview of some famous brand names, please click here.

We’ve had several visits from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, whose job it is to regulate the modelling industry. Our models know they’re in the best position to get into modelling, but whilst we always recommend the most suited models for thousands of job descriptions that come into our office, it’s always the client’s choice which model gets chosen.

If you are sucessful and decide to register with us, you’ll be able to upload more photos on your Models Direct ePortfolio, further increasing your chances of being selected by our clients.

Getting into the commercial modelling industry is a dream come true for many people, with good reason. It’s well paid (fees dependent on the client), exciting and, above all, fun. Plus, you’ll invariably work with large names alongside professional film makers and photographers. The best way to break into the industry is by increasing your chances of being seen by the decision makers – that’s why thousands of models put their trust in us, and have done since 1990.
