With such sizzling sunshine and beautiful blue skies at this time of year, summer is a super season for taking some spectacular new child modelling shots.

Perhaps you have been considering putting your son or daughter forward for modelling work with us?
If so, then we will need to some great pictures of your lovely little one.
Or perhaps your offspring is already part of the Models Direct team and it is time to refresh the photographs on their secure e-portfolio…
Either way, what better time could there be to get out and about.
Here at Models Direct, we always stress just how important it is to have up-to-date pictures of our junior models at our fingertips.
This is because we – and our clients – need to know that the child who will arrive at the assignment looks exactly as they do on the e-portfolio that has been used to select them

Taking new photos with each season, as well as whenever they have a haircut or you notice they have shot up or changed significantly in some other way, therefore makes sense.
Conducting your own summer photo shoot can be great fun for you and your child.
Take time to choose an outfit together – something that not only reflects the season but also their sense of fun and unique style.

Pack plenty of water and ensure they are well covered in factor 50 sunscreen.
They should also be wearing a sun hat – but please remove it when you take your pictures as it can obscure parts of the face and throw shadows.
Use your phone or a digital camera to take the pictures.
Do not use any filters or special effects and make sure the images are saved at full resolution.
Choose a beautiful summery location, such as a leafy green park or sandy beach, and try to find a spot where you have a backdrop that is clear of other people and unattractive obstacles.
Your photos need to be framed well and not shot straight into the sunshine. It is important to avoid glare, especially if you are shooting near the water.

You also need to take your pictures at an angle that ensures your child is not squinting towards the lens.
Getting out and about in the early evening during the summer can be a great way of avoiding the full glare and heat of the sun – and can also bring a lovely depth of glow to your images.
Taking photos in the shade can also sometimes be effective – experiment by changing positions regularly, remembering your child needs to be seen clearly at all times.
Have fun with your youngster as you click away – encourage them to play with a brightly coloured ball in the park or bucket and spade on the sand.
Take photos of them standing, sitting, laughing and looking straight at the camera.
Snap away as much as you like – the more pictures you take, the more you will have to choose from.
Take regular breaks, spending long periods of time out of the sunshine and making sure everyone drinks plenty of water and has their sunscreen topped up.
Once the fun is over and you have returned home, download your images and delete all those with closed eyes, shadows, poor framing and ineffective lighting.
Choose a handful of shots where your child can be clearly seen and their personality and sense of fun are really showing through.
Seeing happy, outdoor shots of child models and would-be child models always makes us smile.
