Spring into modelling – how to refresh your portfolio with seasonal photos

Spring has sprung and it’s time to get snapping so you can seize some superb new seasonal shots.

The team here at Models Direct is always eager to see updated photos up on the e-portfolios of our models – and what better time could there be for a fresh start than the spring!

Yes, March marches on and it’s time to start marching with it.

By updating your secure e-portfolio you are showing us (and our clients!) that you are ready and raring to go!

Male and female models, you will need to rope in a friend, family member or the special person in your life to give you a hand.

Parents of baby and child models, this is something you can do yourself – just grab your camera or phone and have confidence in your abilities!

So, where should you start?

1 Choose an outfit or two

You will need to be dressed appropriately for your spring photo shoot. Flick through the latest fashion mags and style websites to gain some ideas. We don’t want anything too heavy and wintry or too flimsy and summery. Select something that falls squarely in the middle – long sleeved but light, long legged but not too dark. Jeans, cotton trousers, denim jackets and blouses could all work well, for example. Go for gorgeous spring colours – pastels are in vogue this 2026 season, as well as stronger pinks, greens and cool blues. Chaps, don’t be afraid to bring in a little colour too!

2 Find a location

You could try shooting inside, but using the natural light and beautiful backgrounds of the great outdoors could be an easier option for your spring photo shoot. You will find it easier to manage lighting and shadowing by playing about in an outside location and, of course, your setting could really enhance the spring theme within your images. Think about posing beside a lake in a park, against the green backdrop of a leafy woodland or even simply using your own garden as your set if it features a little spring colour.

3. Get snapping!

Choose a good day, then get out and about with your family member or friend who is kindly stepping in to be your photographer. Find places to shoot where the background is not too busy. Make sure no one else appears in any of your shots and that each picture is framed well, showing either your head and shoulders or full body. The sun should be behind the photographer or slightly to an angle. There must be no shadow across your face or body and you must not be squinting at the lens. Be playful with your shots, smile and have fun! Take lots and lots of pictures!

4 Be selective

Now you need to go home and download the pictures onto a larger screen, if possible, making sure you don’t reduce them in size as you do so. Spend some time deleting any pictures that don’t work due to shadowing, blurriness, closed eyes, poor lighting or framing etc – and also remove any you simply don’t like. Narrow your collection down to just a handful. Then ask someone else for their opinion too. Do not put the pictures through any apps, filters or editing software that will change, distort or enhance your appearance in any way. This is vital. We need to know the person we are looking at is really you, as you genuinely appear.

5 Upload your images

Once you have selected the spring shots you want to show us, upload them to your e-portfolio. Remember, it is important to refresh your images every so often. When we (or our clients) look into your e-portfolio we need to know we are seeing recent pictures. We have to be sure that the person potentially being booked is the same person we are seeing on screen – and the only way this can happen is if we can be sure your pictures are recent. In addition, fresh, engaging photographs make models stand out to clients and, after all, that is what this is all about. You want to be selected by our clients from the shortlist of suitable models that we supply them with…

So now is the time to spring into action and get that camera or phone out!

We need you to show us that you are a budding model, ready to blossom in front of the camera and poised to bloom if you are offered an assignment.
