Most of us like our looks, and we all hold our different characteristics as essential to how we live our lives. Even if you think you need to change your looks (whatever that might entail), you oversee your own destiny and can turn it around with a little desire and determination.

If you fall into the “plus-size” category, you should know that this type of modelling is extremely popular. Long gone are the days of “zero size” models. Yes, they have their place and are still in demand, but global industries demand that advertising and promotions call for a wide range of models. “Plus size” should really read “fuller figured”, and they are asked for by our clients regularly. Generally, a female “plus size” model is size 12/14 or more. For the gents, it’s something of a grey area, although unsurprisingly they tend to have broad chests and are above 6 feet in height.
Every person should be embraced for what they are. We represent every type of model for two main reasons:

1. We believe that everyone with the commitment to become a commercial model can become one.

With so many types of models out there, how can “plus-size” models break into our wonderful industry?
The first piece of advice is to be positive. Remind yourself that it’s not just a pipe dream, and that it can realistically happen. Reputable employment agencies embrace diversity and they have brands on their books that need “plus-size” models. So, the demand for them is out there.
Next, research the industry by reading as much as you can. Research, too, the ethics of agencies, and choose one that you connect with. The very best chance of gaining work is by registering with an agency, but make sure they are not just a photo agency. Remember – a decent agency is an employment one, who actively seek work for models. Do not be confused by a photo agency and a proper employment agency.
Then, follow the guidelines outlined by your chosen agency. Follow them to a tee.
Keep updating your agency portfolio pictures and never let them go stale. Don’t be shy and contact your agency if you have any queries.
Modelling is competitive – why wouldn’t it be? – but with determination and joining the right agency, your time in front of the camera could be sooner than you think.
