Ever wondered how to become a model? Models Direct makes it easy

So many things are just that little bit more difficult than they should be.

Applications to various services can be longwinded, with some of them so complicated the applicant wonders why they started the process in the first place. Why can’t life be simpler?

We know there are thousands of people with aspirations of showing off their skills in commercial modelling jobs. We’ve been discussing the best qualities of commercial models for years, and models can demonstrate these talents in their Models Direct portfolios once they have registered with us.

With so much potential out there – and so many opportunities to work with clients across the country – why would we make the application process frustratingly difficult? We want would-be models of all experiences, ages and backgrounds to realise their dreams and join us so they can experience working with photographers and filmmakers just like the huge numbers of models have done before – in fact, since we first started our operations in 1990. We just want to make it as easy as possible for anyone to become a commercial model. Why have barriers for success?

How do we make becoming a model easy? Because commercial modelling is available to everyone, the first step to help models be placed in modelling jobs needs to be simple.

That first step is registering with us. We need just a few details from models (or from parents if they are registering their child). The two main details are:

  1. Personal details – an obvious inclusion. These include name, date of birth, gender, telephone number, email address, who’s applying and country of applicant.
  2. Two photos – clear photos that can be taken on a Smartphone, so no need for professionally paid images. Though we need well-defined images to see facial features, two simple photos makes for an easy application with us. We insist on a 5:4 height to width ratio (portrait), and models should avoid excessive make-up and jewellery; make your photos as natural as possible. Also, please do not wear hats or scarves that hide camera-friendly features. If you have any distinctive features like piercings and tattoos, don’t be shy – show them off.  Please see more tips about submitting photos to us here.

After applying with us, we’ll be in touch with the advice and information on how to progress with us. We’ll also provide all new models with their own Models Direct portfolio. This is your chance to fill them with relevant photos, reels and skills. When we put forward models for jobs, our clients have access to model’s portfolios to see what they can offer, so think of portfolios as a model’s own creative CV. Top them up regularly with fresh photos and creative reels, helping you to let clients know you are taking modelling seriously.

Not all modelling work is easy, but all jobs are enjoyable. What we can say with confidence is that the first steps to becoming a Models Direct model is as simple as it should be.
